What do you get when you mash up open directories and MeidiaWiki? Wikology, that’s what. Wikology is the wiki for all those who make their living in filthy lucre of commerce, rather than the high-brow banter over at wikipedia.
Wikipedia is a strange duck. A desire for avoiding subjective content and flamewars has led to a new intellectual- dare i say it– fascism over at the wikipedia, where any listing that even has a wiff of commercial exploitation invokes almost immediate burnination and banination.
Okay, that was kind of harsh. The more I understood the wikipedia outlook, the more I understand it and agree with it. That being said, there are some real freakazoids running around over there– mostly grad students from Eastern seaboard colleges with too much time on their hands down at the local coffee shop (the one with the grand latte and the free wifi), I am guessing. We tried to list backcountry.com on there and promptly got booted. Sure, someone not so skilled in the fine art of academic inflation and NPOV wrote the copy and got us kicked, but I think the banination was going to come sooner or later.
Wikology stands to fill in that gap– a wiki for the rest of us. A wiki that welcomes shameless commercial promotion, welcomes shameless ego-surging and profiling. So go ahead, list your company– list yourself. Watch the traffic roll in.
